Treat Your New Spa, Swim, or Hot Tub with Kissimmee Pool Pros Guide

Treating your new spa or swim spa with the Kissimmee Pool Pros (aka KPP) chlorine and bromine free system is an easy process that will get you in your spa as quickly as possible!

  • Fill spa, swim spa or hot tub with water. Leave the cover off. Premix 50gms of KPP
  • Chlorine Remover per 1,000L in a bucket of water and add to your spa water.
  • Run circulation pump and add the premixed chlorine remover.
  • Run your circulation pump for 2 hours prior to adding any other chemical.
  • Check pH, Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness level. The ideal level of Alkalinity is between 80-140ppm; the ideal level of pH is between 7.2-7.6 and the ideal level of Calcium Hardness is between 80-120ppm.
  • Use KPP Alkalinity Enhancer or KPP pH Reducer to adjust your pH and Alkalinity levels as required. Note that these products enhance or reduce both pH and Alkalinity
  • Use KPP Calcium Enhancer to increase the calcium if necessary.
  • Add KPP Spa Shock at 50gms per 1,000L. Run your filter pump only for 1 hour.
  • Add KPP Spa Sanitiser at 60ml per 1,000L. Run your filter pump only for 30 minutes.
  • Add KPP Spa Kleer at 60ml per 1,000L. Run your filter pump only for 30 minutes.
  • Run your filter pump for a minimum of 6 hours, or until your spa water is clear.
  • After 24 hours remove your filter cartridge and clean with KPP Instant Filter Klenz.

Important Notes

  • More is not better – DO NOT OVERDOSE.
  • When adding chemicals, run filter pump only.
  • A light brown foam may appear around the waterline, depending on source water quality. This is a normal aftereffect as the Shock oxidizes water impurities. Simply wipe off the foam with a soft cloth. For a persistent line of brown scum add a further dose of KPP Chlorine Remover.
  • KPP is not compatible with chlorine or bromine based products. DO NOT COMPLIMENT TREATMENT WITH THESE PRODUCTS
  • Always remove cover when adding chemicals and leave uncovered for at least 30 minutes after treatment to allow spa to ‘breathe’.
  • Your spa should be allowed to breathe daily for 30 minutes with the cover removed
  • Add half a dose (25gm per 1000 litres) of KPP Chlorine Remover prior to topping up your spa, swim spa or hot tub.
  • Your spa should be drained at least once per year (more often with higher bather loads). Use KPP Pipe Klenz to clean oils and body fats from your pipe work.

Maintain it All With KPP

Maintaining an KPP spa, swim spa, or hot tub is a simple, easy 3 STEP process. General Information: When adding chemicals run filter pump only. Add chemicals 30 minutes apart.

STEP 1: Add KPP Spa Sanitiser once per week at 60ml per 1,000L spa water.

STEP 2: Add KPP Spa Kleer

once per week at 60ml per 1,000 L spa water.
STEP 3: Add KPP Spa Shock once per week at 20gms per 1,000L spa water.

Further Information

  • For optimum water clarity, or after heavy usage, add KPP Spa Shock at 20 gms per 1,000 ltrs after each use.
  • Use KPP Instant Filter Klenz to clean filter cartridges once per week OR after heavy bathing loads.
  • If people drink alcohol in the spa they significantly increase the amount of perspiration and body fats in the spa. These body fats are trapped in the filter cartridge until it becomes clogged and then cloudy water will result. For optimum water clarity filter cartridges should be cleaned afterwards.
  • Check pH, Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness level once a week. The ideal level of pH is between 7.2-7.6. The ideal level of Alkalinity is between 80-140ppm and the ideal level of Calcium Hardness is between 80-120ppm.
  • Use KPP pH and Alkalinity Enhancer to increase pH. Use KPP pH and Alkalinity Reducer to decrease pH.
  • When adjusting pH it is better to use half the recommended dose at a time, rechecking after 1 hour.
  • Use KPP Calcium Enhancer to increase Calcium.

Troubleshooting

CLOUDY WATER
Cloudy water can be caused by one of 4 issues:

Incorrect water balance.

Action:
Check pH levels and adjust if necessary to between 7.2-7.6ppm
Check Alkalinity Levels and adjust if necessary to between 80-140ppm

Incorrect dosing of KPP Spa Sanitiser and/or KPP Spa Kleer. Either too much or too little of both or either can cause cloudy water.

Action:
Test the Sanitiser Level. Your desired level is 15-20ppm. If your spa has been overdosed, remove a third of the water and dilute with fresh water adding 25gms of KPP Chlorine Remover per 1000L and then retest the sanitiser levels

Blocked filter cartridges.

Action:
Remove your filter cartridges and clean with KPP Instant Filter Klenz
Shock dose your spa with a double dose of KPP Shock and run the filter for 12 hours leaving the cover off the spa

Build up of body fat in pipe work.

Action
Apply KPP Pipe Klenz to clean the interior pipe work
Run your Spa for two hours, drain and flush spa, then thoroughly clean

Brown Scum

A line of brown scum can be caused either by excess body fats or when water contaminated with chlorine has been added to your spa.

Action
Add 50gms of KPP Chlorine Remover and run the filter for 4 hours with the spa cover off.
Use KPP pH and Alkalinity Enhancer on a damp rag to remove the line of brown scum.

Foaming
Foaming is usually caused by either incorrect water balance or an excess build up of body fats in the filter cartridge or pipe work.

Action
Add one cap of KPP Anti-Foam to stop the foam from forming
Clean your filter cartridge with KPP Instant Filter Klenz
If foaming persists, use KPP Pipe Klenz and refill your spa

KPP Testing Procedure

Water should be checked when spa is first filled and weekly thereafter.
The test kit tests for KPP Spa Sanitiser (biguanide) and pH (KPP Spa Sanitiser), pH and Alkalinity levels.

Sanitiser (Biguanide) level should be 15-20ppm.

  • To increase sanitiser level add KPP Spa Sanitiser
  • If your spa has been overdosed, remove a third of the water and dilute with fresh water adding 25gms of KPP Chlorine Remover per 1000L and then retest the sanitiser levels

pH level should be between 7.2-7.6ppm

  • To increase pH use KPP pH and Alkalinity Enhancer
  • Do not add more than 40gms of KPP pH and Alkalinity Enhancer (per 1000L) at a time.
  • To decrease pH use KPP pH and Alkalinity Reducer

Total Alkalinity levels should be between 80-140ppm

  • To increase total alkalinity, add KPP pH and Alkalinity Enhancer
  • Do not add more than 40gms of KPP pH and Alkalinity Enhancer (per 1000L) at a time

Calcium Hardness should be between 80-120 ppm.

  • To increase Calcium Hardness level add KPP Calcium Enhancer
